Yesterday Bill Gates came to Romania to attend the inauguration Global Technical Support Center and he announced the availability of the Microsoft Windows Vista system for Romanian market.
The media did a lot of coverage with tiles like “The richest man of the planet visits Romania” and so on. In Bucharest whole street in downtown Bucharest was ornate with flags bearing the Microsoft Windows logo (i wonder who payed for those banners, how much and who gave the authorization). I wonder how the Bucharest would look like if Hugh Hefner would come. Maybe they will ornate the street with Matasari prostitutes ?
The visit went without big incidents. With one big exception. The Romanian president Basescu speech. He said:
” Piracy helped the young generation discover computers. It set off the development of the IT industry in Romania. It helped Romanians improve their creative capacity in the IT industry, which has become famous around the world”

What should we understand from this ? That the piracy is good ? Gates made no comment and this is weird. On one hand Vista focuses on DRM and on the other hand Bill Gates says nothing when someone implied that piracy is good. So Microsoft does care about Intellectual Property or no ? I won’t write now the ten reasons NOT to choose vista. That’s a post for another time.
Meanwhile be careful not to throw money on windows.
